Sight Support Derbyshire is celebrating after receiving a cheque for £4,500 from Central England Co-operative.
The cheque was presented to Martin Wilson from the group by Store Manager Wayne Ingham after it made an application to Central England Co-operative’s Community Dividend Fund.
Sight Support Derbyshire helps local blind and partially sighted people of all ages through a range of services all supported by our 200 volunteers. The funds will be used to upgrade computer equipment at Sight Support Derbyshire. This will enable the organisation to work much more efficiently and to use more up-to-date software, such as Zoomtext magnification software for the visually impaired.
Martin Wilson from Sight Support Derbyshire commented: “We would like to thank Central England Co-operative for these much needed funds. The money will be used to buy new computing hardware and software, allowing us to better meet the needs of blind and partially sighted people in our area.”
Charities and local groups can apply for awards through Central England Co-operative’s Community Dividend Fund which guarantees that at least 1% of the Society’s trading profit is reinvested in local communities. The scheme has already donated over £2million to local neighbourhood causes.
Wayne Ingham, Store Manager at Central England Co-operative’s Bakewell Food Store added: “It is a founding principle of our Society to reward customer loyalty by investing in and supporting local communities. Every three months, many schemes benefit from awards which range in value from £100 to £5,000 making local communities better places for our members to live and work in. This is a very worthwhile project which will benefit blind and partially-sighted people in Derbyshire for many years to come.”
Any member of Central England Co-operative can apply for a Community Dividend award and application forms are available from any Central England Co-operative store or can be completed and submitted online: http://communities.centralengland.coop/
