David Beckham showed his support in the promotion of Blind Football and was given a lesson by the prolific Great Britain and England Blind Footballer, David Clarke. Both players have excelled in their sport and are great role models representing England over 100 times, with Beckham netting 17 and ‘Clarkie’ netting an amazing 116 goals! Dave Clarke alongside the GB Paralympic Football Squad hopefuls gave Beckham some tips and demonstrated their skills in the great game of Blind Futsal.

Sainsburys is the sole sponsor for the Paralympics Games 2012 and very proudly David Beckham is their ambassador. Beckham will be encouraging children of all ages and abilities to ‘have a go’ and take part in several of Sainsbury’s initiatives, including the Million Kids Challenge and Active Kids 2012. Beckham stated, “I know the difference leading a healthier and more active life can make to kids and I have been really impressed with the long-term commitment that Sainsbury’s has made. I am looking forward to working with Sainsbury’s to help UK kids have fun, become even more active and introduce them to Paralympic Sports through the 1 Million Kids Challenge.”

The East Midlands County Football Association’s, Leicestershire & Rutland, Nottinghamshire, Northamptonshire, Derbyshire and Lincolnshire all work together to promote disability football alongside many other areas of ‘the beautiful game’. Leicestershire and Rutland plays host to the Regional Centre of Excellence for Blind Football with Derbyshire taking the lead in Partially Sighted Football and Nottinghamshire being the Centre of Excellence for CP (Cerebral Palsy) Football, another Paralympic sport. The East Midlands County Football Association’s, in order to identify and recruit players to become involved, engage the support of Disability Groups and Organisations, the Education Sector, County Sports Partnerships and Local Authorities, to help to raise the profile and awareness of not only Paralympic Football, Blind and Cerebral Palsy, but all areas of disability football, promoting the opportunities available.
