Derby Homes Sponsored Walk

Sight Support Derbyshire teamed up with Derby Homes' Junior Warden Scheme in May to learn about visual impairment and complete an 8 miles sponsored walk that raised over £750. Over thirty young people aged between 9 and 14 walked from Derby to Elvaston and back as part of the Junior Wardens scheme that is designed to encourage young people to get involved in their local communities and taking pride in where they live.

Sight Support Derbyshire trustee Martin Wilson said "It was a great effort from some young kids who have really gone the extra mile to learn about and support blind and visually impaired people in their own communities".

Elizabeth Wlicox, Youth Engagement Officer, said "The Junior Wardens show real commitment and enthusiasm and have had a positive impact on their community as demonstrated by the great amount of money these young people have managed to raise for people less fortunate than them".
