Derby Zombie Walk for Charity

Zombies will be wandering around the streets of Derby next month.

Members of the public are being invited to dress in spooky costumes to take part in the city's first charity zombie walk.

Shaun Bunting, 23, and Jason Andrasi, 22, are the brains behind the free event, organised to raise money for Sight Support Derbyshire, Derby Kids' Camp and Save the Children. Both have a love of zombie films and thought it was a great way to put this to good use.

Mr Andrasi, a film and video student at the University of Derby, said: "A couple of years ago I was reading about zombie walks happening across the world. The closest one in the UK was in Lincoln, and I thought, why not organise my own in Derby?"

Mr Bunting, who runs a promotions company, said: "We're going to carry collection tins along the route and hope to raise lots of money for three very worthwhile charities."

The zombies will take a circular route starting and finishing in the Market Place.

Mr Andrasi said: "I'm hoping to film the whole thing and we've organised some staged zombie attacks using some of my friends, who are actors, as 'victims'."

He added: "We're hoping plenty of kids will get involved too, it's fun and easy to get dressed up as a zombie, just wear old clothes and apply white make-up and lots of fake blood."

Eight marshals will be providing guidance. Zombies are asked to meet in the Market Place by the big screen on October 29 at 12.30pm.
