Local charity Sight Support Derbyshire is calling on the county to ditch the drab and Dress Bright for Sight to help raise awareness of good eye health.
Businesses, organisations, schools and children’s groups are invited to wear bright colours for a day during National Eye Health Week, from 19 to 25 September.
Sight Support Derbyshire will provide information to encourage participants to take care of their eyes, and money raised through sponsorship will support the charity’s work providing practical, emotional and social support to local blind and visually impaired people.
National Eye Health Week raises awareness of the importance of looking after your eyes by having regular eye tests and taking other steps such as eating healthily and wearing sunglasses in bright sunshine.
Claire Winfield, Sight Support Derbyshire’s Chief Executive, said: “Wearing bright colours is a great way to brighten up your day, and you could even have an office bake-off with food containing ingredients that are good for your eyes.
“Sight is the sense that 90 per cent of us fear losing the most, and we support National Eye Health Week because there are important steps people can take to look after their eyes, now and into the future.”
Staff at Oakwood Eyecare in Derby were proud to be part of Dress Bright for Sight in 2015 and are taking part again this year. Partner Tom Jackson said: “All the staff enjoyed being involved, it certainly brightened up the workplace and helped raise awareness of the important work done by Sight Support Derbyshire. We would encourage any local employer to join in, it's really simple to do and worth the effort to help this great local charity."
