Requesting Donations at a Funeral

Many people decide to ask for donations towards a treasured cause, rather than flowers, at a funeral or limit flowers to those from close family and ask for donations from other friends and family. This can be a fitting way for family and friends to remember their loved one by supporting a charity which helped them in their lifetime, or perhaps one which was close to their heart.

If you would like to arrange a collection please speak to your Funeral Director who should be able to help you to arrange this. Some people add it to their announcement in the local newspaper, some add it to the Order of Service, or some simply have a collection plate available at the funeral service.

Many local newspapers now have online announcements as well as those in the printed editions and some allow people to make donations through the newspaper's website. For example, the Derby Telegraph which covers Derby and the surrounding area, and the Chesterfield Today website which includes announcements for the Belper News, Buxton Advertiser, Derbyshire Times, Eastwood Advertiser, Ilkeston Advertiser, Matlock Mercury, Ripley and Heanor News, Chesterfield Advertiser, Eckington Leader and Peak Times.

If you are collecting donations from friends and family please ask for cheques to be made payable to Sight Support Derbyshire, and post cheques to:
