Local blind man to descend 100ft
Towering at an impressive 100ft, the Jurys Inn Hotel, in the centre of Derby, is one of the tallest buildings in Derby and we are giving you the chance to abseil from the top of it whilst raising money for a local charity at the same time.
All you need to do is turn up, face your fears and raise at least £100 for Sight Support Derbyshire - all equipment and expertise is provided by Rock and Ice of Ashbourne.
Howard Birchall, who is registered blind and a Director of Sight Support Derbyshire says, ‘I have never done anything like this before and I am actually scared of heights!! I have raised thousands for Sight Support Derbyshire through walking but I have never jumped from the top of a 100ft building before!! The work Sight Support Derbyshire do is tremendous and the money we will raise from the abseil will make a real difference to the everyday lives of blind or visually impaired people’.
Martin Wilson, trustee of Sight Support Derbyshire, is also leading the charge over the top of the 100ft building and says ‘Sight Support Derbyshire is a local charity supporting local people who are blind and visually impaired. I have done many things to raise money for them over the years but this is probably the most challenging and daring thing I have done. It will be brilliant fun and absolutely anyone can take part’.
David Livingston, Head of Jurys Inn says ‘After the success of the event last year, we were very happy to give our support to Sight Support Derbyshire again. It was an amazing day last year with the money raised going to local people’
Rammie from Derby County will also be abseiling with us helping to make this event one to remember.
