New Naseby audio gives insight for blind people

New audio files that can be downloaded to mp3 devices and smartphones will allow blind and partially sighted people to experience Naseby Battlefield like never before. The audio description guides visitors through the six mile Battlefield Trail with ten tracks giving an exciting relay of events from June 14th 1645.

The historical site requires visitors to guide themselves around the battlefield following the trail along eight view points, each of which offers written information to explain and describe the location and the events which occurred there. The new audio files provides a more accessible experience by allowing visitors the same freedom to tour the site at their own pace whilst offering highly descriptive narrative and sound effects of the battle. Tourists can download the files from the Naseby website and take it along with them on an ipod, mp3 player or even their smartphones.

Although the new equipment hopes to give greater education to local key stage three history students, it will perhaps be even more beneficial to blind and partially sighted people who rely on authentic and descriptive audio when visiting historical sights. Visually impaired people living in the East Midlands who may have previously been discouraged from visiting the attraction will now find that they are able to enjoy the experience of this day out.

Naseby Battlefield is the site on which Charles I’s army was defeated during the English Civil War by the New Model Army led by Oliver Cromwell, the battle is of extreme importance in British history as it briefly saw Britain become a republic; the autocratic monarchy was overthrown after the execution of Charles four years later.
