Services
Sight Support Derbyshire offers a range of services. Services include:
We offer regular befriending support of either a friendly telephone call or home visit by a suitably trained volunteer. The service aims to reduce social isolation and build confidence by providing regular companionship, access to social activities and other services.
Children & Young People’s Services
We offer a range of services to children and young people aged between 0 - 18 years. Services include youth groups, trips and outings, support to families with babies and toddlers with a visual impairment, swimming and music tuition, and much more.
If you are visually impaired and live in the county, our trained workers are available to visit you in your home to help with one off tasks. This can include anything from resetting talking clocks to being referred to professional groups, such as the Fire Service for free fire safety checks.
Our fully trained staff and volunteers are available to provide information and practical advice to patients visiting the eye clinics. These are located in hospitals at Derby Royal, Chesterfield Royal, Ilkeston and Ripley, Buxton Cavendish and Whitworth.
This specially equipped vehicle tours the county stopping at different sites every day. The trained volunteers on board provide support and information as well as the opportunity to try out and buy aids and equipment.
Our in house magazine provides a range of information on visual impairment, activities and services throughout the County. It is available free of charge in large print, email, CD or Braille formats.
Sight Support Derbyshire is proud to hold the Derbyshire County Council contract for provision of rehabilitation services. Our qualified rehabilitation workers will be able to help you to regain mobility, independent living and communication skills. Referrals are made through “Call Derbyshire” on: 0845 058 058.
Our offices in Derby and Chesterfield have information leaflets and equipment as well as staff who are on hand to provide advice and support.
We organise a range of sports and leisure activities to suit visually impaired adults of all ages. These include social gatherings, swimming, walking, pottery, bowls and opportunities to pursue individual interests.
This interactive one day information program is designed to introduce visually impaired people and their carers to the support that is available to help them live independently.
